Weekly therapy can be incredibly valuable, but sometimes you may want more time and space to focus on deeper therapeutic work.

A KAP Intensive offers a different format for this work. Rather than spreading the process across traditional weekly appointments, you have dedicated time for preparation, the ketamine experience, and integration.

What Is a KAP Intensive?

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) combines the therapeutic use of ketamine with psychological support and integration. Ketamine can temporarily alter perception, awareness, and the way you experience thoughts and emotions. Some people find that this creates an opportunity to step outside familiar ways of thinking, explore emotions differently, and approach experiences from a new perspective.

A KAP Intensive builds on this approach by setting aside extended, intentional time for the therapeutic process. Rather than focusing only on the medication experience, we work together before, during, and after the session to create a supportive structure for exploration and integration.

The process begins with preparation, where we identify your goals, establish intentions, and develop tools to help you feel grounded and supported. During the ketamine experience, therapeutic support provides space to explore what emerges without pressure or expectations. Following the experience, we focus on integration, making sense of thoughts, emotions, or insights and exploring how they connect to your everyday life, relationships, and patterns.

Having dedicated time for each part of the process allows us to move beyond the experience itself and focus on what you can take from it.

The goal isn't simply to have an experience. It's to use that experience as an opportunity for greater self-understanding, emotional exploration, and meaningful therapeutic change.

Maybe you've been in therapy for a while and understand your patterns, but still struggle to change how you feel or respond.

Maybe you find it difficult to access certain emotions, feel disconnected from yourself, or notice that the same thoughts and reactions continue to surface despite your efforts.

Or perhaps your schedule makes weekly therapy difficult, and you would prefer to dedicate focused time to your therapeutic goals.

A KAP Intensive offers a more concentrated approach to this work. By setting aside extended time for preparation, the ketamine experience, and integration, we can give each part of the therapeutic process the attention it deserves.

Depending on your needs and treatment plan, KAP may offer an opportunity to:

  • Explore emotions, memories, and experiences that feel difficult to access.

  • Step outside familiar patterns of thinking and responding.

  • Develop new perspectives about yourself and your experiences.

  • Explore longstanding beliefs that influence your relationships and sense of self.

  • Increase emotional awareness and connection.

  • Work toward greater flexibility in how you respond to stress and difficult emotions.

  • Translate therapeutic insights into meaningful changes in everyday life.

Everyone's experience is different. KAP is not a guaranteed solution or a replacement for ongoing therapeutic work, but it may offer another pathway for those looking to approach their healing differently.

Why choose a KAP Intensive?

Who may benefit from a KAP Intensive?

KAP may be worth exploring if you are ready to engage in focused therapeutic work and are curious about a different approach to understanding yourself and your experiences.

You may be a good fit if you:

  • Have experienced trauma or difficult life experiences: You notice that past experiences continue to influence your emotions, beliefs, relationships, or sense of safety.

  • Feel stuck despite having insight: You understand your patterns intellectually but still struggle to change how you feel or respond.

  • Experience anxiety or depression: You are looking for additional therapeutic support in addressing persistent emotional distress.

  • Feel disconnected from yourself: You struggle to identify emotions, access feelings, or feel connected to the people and experiences around you.

  • Struggle with longstanding beliefs: You notice recurring thoughts about not being enough, needing to be in control, or having to hold everything together.

  • Are navigating relationship or attachment wounds: You want to explore how past experiences influence trust, connection, boundaries, and relationships.

  • Are already engaged in therapy: You are interested in supplementing your existing therapeutic work with a more focused experience.

KAP is not appropriate for everyone. Your medical history, current mental health, treatment goals, and readiness are important considerations when determining whether this approach is appropriate.

Healing doesn’t have to follow a traditional timeline.

KAP Intensives offer a different way to approach therapy with dedicated time for preparation, the ketamine experience, and integration, creating space to explore emotions, gain new perspectives, and focus on meaningful change.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a KAP Intensive last?

The length and structure of an intensive depend on your individual goals, treatment needs, and medical treatment plan. We will discuss the available scheduling options and determine what makes the most sense for you during the consultation and preparation process.

Who prescribes and administers the ketamine?

Ketamine is prescribed and managed by a qualified medical provider. I provide the psychotherapy component, including preparation, therapeutic support, and integration. We work within our respective professional roles to support your care.

What does the ketamine experience feel like?

Experiences vary. Ketamine may temporarily change your perception, awareness, and relationship with thoughts and emotions. Some people experience emotional insights, memories, or a different perspective on familiar experiences. Others may have a more inward or quiet experience. We will discuss what to expect during preparation so you can approach the process with an understanding of the experience and appropriate support.

Can I participate in a KAP Intensive if I already have a therapist?

Yes. A KAP Intensive may complement your existing therapy when clinically appropriate. With your permission, I can coordinate with your current therapist to support continuity of care and help integrate the work into your broader therapeutic goals.

What might I feel after a KAP session?

Everyone responds differently. You may feel reflective, emotionally sensitive, tired, or notice changes in how you relate to certain thoughts and experiences. Integration provides an opportunity to explore what came up and determine what additional support may be helpful. We will also discuss appropriate aftercare and follow-up based on your treatment plan.

Do I need to take time off work or arrange transportation?

Yes. You should plan to have time available for your appointment and recovery afterward. Because ketamine can temporarily affect perception, coordination, and judgment, you will need to follow your prescribing provider's transportation and aftercare instructions. You should not plan to drive yourself after treatment.

We will discuss scheduling, transportation, support, and aftercare during preparation so you can plan accordingly.

Can KAP be incorporated into Christian counseling?

Yes. For clients who desire it, we can incorporate prayer, Scripture, and spiritual reflection into therapy. Faith integration is always optional, and I welcome individuals of all backgrounds and beliefs. My goal is to support your healing in a way that aligns with your values and what matters most to you.

How do I get started?

The first step is to schedule a free 20-minute consultation. We can discuss what brings you to therapy, what you hope to work on, and whether a KAP Intensive may be a good fit. From there, we can review the process and discuss next steps.
